SO WHAT EXACTLY IS THE 3 LOCHS ULTRA?
Starting from the small village of Luss on the shores of Loch Lomond, with breath taking scenery all the way, trek past Gare Loch, Loch Long, with a final traverse over the famous Arrochar Alps (Gold only).
- Choose your entry level from 23 miles (Bronze), 35 miles (Silver), or go the whole 50 miles with over 7000ft of ascent to Gold!
- Enter as an individual or assemble a team of your, friends, family or work colleagues and you’re all set for an unforgettable bucket list experience!!
- Bag drop and transport support included.
- No pressure to fundraise either, (unless you want to?) If you do, you do it for a charity of your choosing.
- Fully supported way marked route, checkpoints, hot food and snacks, route marshals, medical support, tech T shirt, finisher medals and more.
Bronze Finish –
Leaving from the village of Luss along the Loch Lomond cycle way to reach Checkpoint 1 at Loch Lomond Shores Balloch. A steady climb from Balloch takes you to the highest point at Ben Bouie, before descending to Checkpoint 2 (Bag Drop location) in Helensburgh for a well deserved rest and hot meal for lunch. From Checkpoint 2, a short walk through Helensburgh, past the famous Charles Rennie Macintosh Hill house before heading out of civilisation into Glen Fruin to reach the Bronze finish. A good introduction to an endurance event.
Silver Finish –
From the Bronze finish (Checkpoint 3) and the route described, Silver & Gold finishers continue on above Gare Loch passing the small town of Garelochead down below, this is where the views really start to open up! Passing through the famous military training area of Garelochead to reach Checkpoint 4 at Glen Douglas and a warm snack from our first class catering crew before the final 5 mile push onto the Silver finish at Tarbet. An intermediate route for those used to longer distances.
Gold Finish –
Time to dig deep, a traverse through the Arrochar Alps lies ahead! From Tarbet (Checkpoint 5 & Bag Drop location), the route ascends over Cruach an Tairbeirt to reach Glen Loin and the long steady climb to Alt Coiregrogain and Checkpoint 6. Both Beinn Narnain and Beinn Ime tower above. From checkpoint 6, ascend the steep grassy slopes of Coire Croe, past the famous “Cobbler” to Checkpoint 7, Arrochar. Retrace your steps back over Cruach an Tairbeirt, to reach the Gold finish in Tarbet. An advanced route for the ultra fit, map reading skills essential!
